The final T2T workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 21 from 4:30 -6:00. Erik Lundell will hand out certificates and there will be refreshments in honor of the attendees.Erik will also give an American Studies PPT.

Viewers will observe vivid slides of the landscape, architecture and people that make this area of the country unique. Making the Most of Your Textbooks (April 9)
In this ninety minute workshop the attendees will discuss how teachers can use textbooks by omitting, supplementing, and adapting. The presenter will demonstrate a variety of techniques that exemplify these strategies for enhancing grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and other language skills instruction. The aim is to provide language teachers with ideas on how they can use the materials they have to create motivating and meaningful language learning experiences.

Content Based Instruction (April 16)

The presenter will use the topic of geography to demonstrate how both language and content can be taught simultaneously. A discussion about the principles and benefits of this method will follow. Participants will come away with ideas on how to make language learning meaningful through the teaching of a variety of content areas.

Both workshops will take place at 4.30 at the American Centre on the 3rd floor of the All-Russia State Library For Foreign Literture, Nikoloyamskaya, 1

Integrating Language Skills (March 5, 2014)
After outlining the primary and sub-skills of communication and the benefits of integrating such skills in language instruction, the presenter will demonstrate mini-lessons allowing participants to experience such practices and come away with new and practical ideas for optimal teaching and learning.

Multiple Intelligences (March 19, 2014)
The presenter will describe and demonstrate teaching techniques based on Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences. The aim is to encourage language teachers to consider their students' varied learning styles while creating classroom activities

The workshops will take place at 16:30 at the American Centre of the Russian State Foreign Languages Library, Nikoloyamsakya, 1, (central entrance), Metro staion Taganskaya or Kitay Gorod.

Teaching Grammar from Controlled to Open-ended Practice

(Wednesday, February 5)
The presenter will demonstrate how grammar teaching can extend from very controlled practice where accuracy is emphasized to more open-ended practice where the focus is on fluency. At 16:30 at the American Centre, Foreign Languages Library

Teaching Vocabulary (Wednesday, February 12 )
In this workshop, attendees will begin with a discussion on what it means to “know” a word. Also, ideas on how to decide what vocabulary should be taught will be generated followed by descriptions on how it can be effectively learned. The remainder of the presentation will be dedicated to the demonstration of tasks that involve students in the learning of vocabulary in highly personalized and motivating ways. December 18, 2013, 16:30 — 18:30 at the American Center Senior English Language Fellow, Erik Lundell runs a T2T workshop on Teaching Listening.

The Fellow will begin by briefly discussing principles to consider when developing a listening task.

This will be followed by several teaching demonstrations in which participants will experience ways in which a listening lesson can be developed to allow for an integrated language learning experience.

The aim is to provide new ideas on how listening lessons can be created for meaningful language practice.

The workshop «Writing for creative expression» , conducted on November 27 by Erik Lundell, got a very good feedback. The turnout was 25 people.

Developing Speaking Strategies in the EFL Classroom In this presentation, participants will engage in a demonstration on how dialogues can be used to train language learners to become more independent communicators. In addition, a series of information-gap tasks and evaluation tools will be offered so that teachers can return to the classroom equipped with practical classroom applications that lead students toward becoming competent communicators in a second language.

Writing for Creative Expression In this workshop, the presenter will engage participants in a number of writing tasks that allow learners to express their creativity. The aim is to offer teachers ideas on how to motivate students to practice meaningful writing in a variety of ways. Demonstration tasks will include writing poetry on topics that are relevant to the students, writing collaboratively and writing for grammar and vocabulary development.
