A bit of history
Started in Sweden in 2003, World Storytelling Day is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling. It is celebrated every year on the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, the first day of autumn equinox in the southern. On World Storytelling Day, as many people as possible tell and listen to stories in as many languages and at as many places as possible, during the same day and night. Participants tell each other about their events in order to share stories and inspiration, to learn from each other and create international contacts.
An equinox in astronomy is that moment in time (not a whole day) when the center of the Sun can be observed to be directly above the Earth's equator, occurring around March 20 and September 23 each year.
The significance in the event lies in the fact that it was the first global celebration of storytelling of its kind, and has been important in forging links between storytellers often working far apart from each other. It has also been significant in drawing public and media attention to storytelling as an art form.
It is MELTA 7th festival. The topic for stories this year is «Wishes». As you see stories all over the world will be told a bit later, in March, but it's most important to tell them whatever the time!

Artyom Soloveichik, Head of the Fund «1st September» is a great master of storytelling! He didn't only take part in festivals, but also earned his living by telling stories! That was wonderful that he came to greet and inspire you, dear young storytellers!
We are all very grateful to Liceum #1525 and hosts and to all who worked hard to organize this event!
Special gratitude goes to the teachers and their talented students, who love storytelling and shared their brilliant, moving stories with their peers!
