“Crisis Leadership: managing unforeseen challenges effectively”

13.03.2026

It’s the fall of 1941, the skies are gray, the air is cold, and the enemy is getting closer every minute. Bombs shake the ground and no one knows if Moscow will stand. The frontline is only a few kilometers away from the city. But something even more dangerous has already entered it…

Panic.

Panic can destroy everything faster than any enemy.

Rumors spread faster than armies, people begin to doubt themselves, they stop trusting the government — and when that happens everything begins to crumble. Workers leave factories, transport collapses, supply chains break. And if that continues — the country will fall.

But we all know what happened next.

Moscow did not fall. The war was not lost. And right now you’re sitting here, listening to a ridiculously handsome young man giving this speech.

So… what changed? What stopped the collapse?

Crisis leadership — that’s what happened.

German forces were only 30 kilometers from the city, and yet the government did something completely unexpected — a military parade was held on Red Square. But the most incredible part came after. The soldiers didn’t go home. They marched straight from the parade to the front line. That single act sent a powerful message: the country was still standing, because in a crisis, the real battle is often psychological.

Another example of crisis leadership was a decision that never appeared in any protocol. According to all plans Stalin was supposed to evacuate from Moscow. But he didn’t. He stayed.

And that single decision changed the mood of the entire country. Now they’re not fleeing anymore, they’re resisting.

See, Crisis leadership is about making clear decisions under pressure. The actions taken by the government were not random — they were calculated and precise. And that is exactly why they worked.

But Crisis leadership is not only about governments or generals. Every person faces their own crises — exams, difficult choices, personal struggles. And in those moments, each of us must become our own leader. So, do you panic? Or do you think clearly? The decision is yours.

«It always seems impossible until it’s done»

13.03.2026

Hello, my name is Vasilisa. Today, I am going to talk about Nelson Mandela’s famous quote: 'It always seems impossible until it’s done.' These iconic words are not just a slogan; they are a blueprint for human progress.

Let’s Think back to the early 20th century. People then could never have imagined that we would carry the world’s entire knowledge in our pockets or send spacecrafts to Mars. What they labeled as 'pure magic' or 'madness,' we now consider everyday reality.

Mandela’s quote also reminds us that our greatest fears are often just illusions. Last year, I faced this challenge during my final music school exams. Although I loved performing, my theoretical knowledge was so weak that I genuinely believed passing was impossible because I didn’t understand the rules behind the music.

Have you ever wondered why we fear the mountain's peak more than the actual climb? Our minds build walls where there should be doors. I chose to study one chapter at a time. Eventually, the “impossible” exam was done, and I realized the barrier was only in my mind.

Of course, I am not talking about things that are objectively impossible, like teleporting to another galaxy in a second or touching the stars with your bare hands. I am talking about the boundaries of human achievement that we expand through science and effort.

As Walt Disney said: 'It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.' Disney transformed a simple sketch of a mouse into a global empire. He knew the greatest satisfaction comes from shattering your own perceived limits.

In conclusion: study, explore, and invent. Don’t let the word 'impossible' stop you."

«The future depends on what you do today.» — Mahatma Ghandi

13.03.2026

Good afternoon everyone,

Have you ever imagined your future? A successful career, financial stability, a happy family, respect from others. We all have dreams about who we want to become.

But here is the real question: What are we doing today to make that future real?

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The future depends on what you do today.”

It sounds simple. But if it’s so simple, why do we keep saying, “I’ll start tomorrow”?

Why do we wait for the perfect moment?

And what if that moment never comes?

I used to tell myself the same thing. “I’ll start later. I have time.”

But one day I realized something uncomfortable: I was wasting my time on nothing. Hours were passing, and I was not becoming better — just more distracted.

I had to ask myself a hard question:

Do I really want a better future, or do I just like dreaming about it?

That question changed me.

I decided to take control. I made a schedule. I started reading every day. I began planning my time instead of losing it. The steps were small, almost invisible. But day by day, I started to feel better. More focused. More confident. More responsible for my own life.

The truth is, success does not begin with something huge. It begins with one small decision. One hour of practice. One page read. One promise kept.

Yes, the future will bring challenges. We will make mistakes. But even mistakes can teach us — if we choose to learn instead of quit.

The future is not built in one dramatic moment. It is built quietly, daily, through discipline and choice.

So after this competition, when you go home, don’t just think about your big dreams.

Ask yourself:

What small step can I take today?

Because the person you become tomorrow depends on what you choose to do today.

Thank you

“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”- Leo Tolstoy

The Harmony of Time and Patience

Distinguished members of the jury, esteemed guests, good afternoon. My name is Emil Kerashvili, and I am a 9th-grade student. I would like to greet you in the tradition of my ancestors. In Georgia, we say «Gamarjoba!» Many people think it simply means «Hello,» but it actually translates to «Victory to you.» For me, as someone who has lived and breathed chess since the age of seven, your expert opinion is incredibly important. In my culture, the word of a wise judge is like the final move of a Grandmaster — it carries great weight and inspires growth.

As Leo Tolstoy famously put it, “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” I see these warriors not only on the chessboard but also in the music I play. In addition to chess, I have a deep passion for music; I play the guitar and have been blessed with a good musical ear and voice. In fact, I have learned that a difficult guitar solo and a complex chess opening both require the same thing: thousands of hours of practice. My journey began at the «Youth of Moscow» Olympic Reserve School. Firstly, as a result of this investment of time, I have won multiple stages of the Russian Youth Cup. Time is not my enemy; it is the rhythm that guides my progress.

Secondly, there is the warrior of patience. In chess, many players lose because they try to attack too quickly. However, my musical training has taught me that you cannot rush a melody; you must wait for the right note. This same patience helped me last year when I won the Moscow Schoolchildren's Championship. Furthermore, being raised in a Georgian home has given me what we call a «mountain character.» In other words, I was taught to be well-mannered, to respect my opponents, and to stay calm under pressure. Consequently, when I am at the chessboard, I combine my passionate spirit with the quiet patience of a strategist.

Moreover, these «two warriors» are my guides toward my ultimate goal: becoming an International Grandmaster. Whether I am practicing my vocals, strumming my guitar, or studying a classic game, I apply the same discipline. Therefore, I believe that being a true «warrior» means possessing the harmony of a musician and the nerves of a chess player. You cannot win a game — or master an instrument — in a single move.

As a final point, I am convinced that success is not about luck. It is about how you use your time, how much patience you hold in your heart, and how you respect the world around you. I have already achieved many victories, but my most important tournaments are still ahead of me. Above all, I am a student of life who moves with the rhythm of time.

I would like to thank you for your attention today. Remember: the clock is always ticking, but if you stay calm and focused, you will always be one move ahead.

Thank you! Gamarjoba and victory to us all!
