I hesitated when adding the word «Best» to the title of this article, 1) Because the best method of learning language is not the same from person to person, and 2) Because there are approximately eleventy jillion podcasts available, and I can't claim to have tried them all.
As a former ESL teacher and a person who tried several methods when learning Portuguese, from Rosetta Stone to private instruction to full immersion, I know every student has their own goal in mind when they set out to learn a language. Some of my students wanted to open the doors at work for jobs in English-speaking countries by focusing on business English. Some needed to pass a proficiency test at school, and some wanted to feel confident striking up a conversation. Some just wanted to understand what Chandler was saying on Friends. With that in mind, I dove into the world of ESL podcasts. While archived podcasts are useful, the topics (and slang) can be outdated, so I only included those that are currently being updated. Dear MELTA sister,
Congratulations on your 5th anniversary! It is our pleasure and privilege to
have you both as professional colleagues and close personal friends and we
appreciate our cooperation very much. Your association is young enough to
have that drive for new accomplishments and initiatives in ELT and your
members are outstanding and committed professionals to provide new
achievements and contributions to ELT community.

I am Kobzina Tatiana,a senior English teacher at Moscow State Regional University, who works in a close-knit team of committed professionals in searching for new ways to explore fresh innovative teaching techniques through professional training. I’d like to make a presentation about cooperative activities of MELTA and English Language Office US Embassy.
A number of MELTA participants have already undergone two refresher courses “Shaping the way we teach English” ( from February to June 2008 and from October to April 2008/2009)), conducted by David Fay, ELO. He is a real expert who shares his invaluable experience working directly with Moscow teachers in the program and he has a consistent approach in covering the issues of our teachers’ current concerns. The goals of this program are:
1. To build an academic and pedagogical foundation in language teaching.

Professional development — An on-going effort and learning process undertaken by individuals (teachers) to improve their teaching and other professional skills
Effectiveness — Degree to which objectives are achieved and the extent to which targeted problems are resolved.
PORTRAIT OF AN EFFECTIVE TEACHER
- Personal qualities: humor, flexibility, dependability, empathy, curiosity, friendliness, leadership, active listening, peacemaking, positive attitude, fairness, consistency, self-discipline
- Classroom organization: self-access corner, readers’ corner, U or 4desks arrangement, students’ works displays, posters, artifacts, background music.
- Teaching techniques: ICT, creative and critical thinking, problem solving, questioning, task-based learning, student-centeredness, collaborating through pair/group/team work, constructive discipline through teambuilding.
- Teaching style: well-paced, motivational, effective time and teacher talk management, student-friendly, informal, deep mastery of the subject taught.

MELTA slogan, successfully composed 5 years ago by Tatiyana Yurovskaya’s , head of Slavic-American-English school “Marina” helped us on this way: Create and share! Cooperate and care! Communicate and dare! These short and long 5 years brought us happiness, more friends, discoveries as well as hardships, disillusionment, but we all know for certain that united we stand!
